Unique business premises come to life with durable facade panels

A simple design combined with interesting details 

Storbildsfabriken is located in a large industrial area in Linköping, an area that is mostly dominated by classical industrial sheet metal buildings. David Bergman, owner of Storbildsfabriken, opted for a completely different approach for their new headquarters: “Our surroundings consist of simple and traditional metal box buildings that are often seen in industrial areas. We wanted to build in a way that allows us to stand out, both internally and externally. The shape of the building is not very different in itself, but it is the details that do it. 

“When we found Rockpanel's facade cladding, we felt that it was just right for us. It is a durable and high-quality material, but also thriving. We chose Rockpanel Natural, an untreated facade board that over time fades to a beautiful and natural rust brown colour which transforms into a specific look depending on the weather. We cut it out into a pattern, which also makes the result look alive - especially together with the lighting. Moreover, we have chosen to bring the facade panels into the room and mount them on the inner arch edge to the upper floor. It is these small details that make our company building really stand out in the area.” 

Germund Morén from Sonark Arkitekter, the responsible project architect, adds: “From the beginning, Sonark's vision was to start from simpler building materials as a base for roofs and exterior walls and construct a simple shape for the building, but add exciting surface layers and protruding form elements. The exterior lighting further enhances the diagonally cut panels and the result was a high-quality facade with a slightly rough expression, exactly what the customer wanted.” 

A homely office building 

Storbildsfabriken, like many others, has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, but now they see that the need and demand for their services is increasing. Therefore, they chose to build their own premises, instead of continuing to rent. In this way, they were able to adapt the premises based on the wishes of the future. David Bergman concludes: “We wanted to create building that you feel comfortable in, in a way that you might not normally do in office premises. You spend so much time at work and therefore it is important that everyone is happy and that the environment is open, pleasant and homely. But we still wanted an industrial touch, so it was perfect to get the rust-coloured facade panels indoors and match them with a concrete floor. Then we softened the interior with some wood and other colours. We are very satisfied, both with the exterior and interior.”
