How Rockpanel recycles waste from other industries

Did you know that almost 90 percent of the waste generated by the construction industry can be reused or recycled for new products? In practice, we see that it is instead largely downgraded in low-value applications. (Source) An example of downcycling, as it’s called, is using waste as content for the construction of roads. Upcycling, on the other hand is using waste to create a more valuable product. And that’s exactly what we do at Rockpanel!

As well as recycling our own waste from production, we give secondary materials from other industries a new life. Up to 50% of the raw material content of our boards are recycled materials. These recycled materials are not valuable resources that could be used for other purposes (such as metal and glass), but it’s all waste that would otherwise be downcycled, or even end up as landfill. Rockpanel gives this waste a new life and lets it be part of many beautiful new facades.

We aim to make our environmental and climate impact as low as possible. Lowering waste is therefore one of the goals for the ROCKWOOL Group. One example of how we do this, is by fully utilising our own production waste. We’re able to do this not only because we have an advanced production process, but also because our stone wool fibres will always remain of excellent quality, no matter how often they’ve re-entered the production process recycled and reused. This level of quality is also reflected in our end product, which is very long-lasting too.
